Similar to Chapters 8 and 10, I felt that a cover that skewed more conceptual was appropriate for this story. The visual is kind of basic because the themes are, well, kind of basic. I didn’t attempt much visual nuance here, although I did pay careful attention to the placement of the icons.

The biggest challenge for this cover was what color to use for the background. I went with a “night sky” gradient at first–dark violet at the top slowly transitioning to a yellow glow at the very bottom. That seemed unnecessarily busy, so I went fully abstract and picked a color that Cass and Noah’s colors would stand out against. At that point the trick was to just find a color that wasn’t offensive to the eyes. Whether it works, that may depend on the screen you view the cover on.
